Introduction
Diesel mechanics have a lot of responsibility whether it is in the shop or if it is on the construction site. Imagine being under or even under the hood of a 5,683 lb truck. Just imagine a person working on an 80,000-pound semi, the average man weighs 191 that's 79,809 bigger than the average joe.

History
A diesel mechanic does all kinds of different work to keep the community running strong. Without diesel mechanics, we would not have school buses, city buses, semis and more. According to the Encyclopedia of Careers and Vocational Guidance “In 1892 Rudolf diesel patent an engine” (689). Over time diesel mechanics have evolved and gotten more advanced. There is always a high demand for diesel mechanics and always job available. Diesel mechanics are all over the U.S. and are always learning new ways to resolve problems quickly and more precise. “ Approximately 285,000 diesel mechanics work in the United States “ (Encyclopedia 37). Diesel mechanics are always on high demand to work whether it is in a big shop or in the military. There is always a job available. The main goal as a diesel mechanic is to make it where someones engine is running strong and that way they are not constantly having problems. “The diesel mechanics main task is preventive to avoid breakdowns but they also make engine repairs when necessary” (Encyclopedia 688). They are also trained to do regular check-ups and maintain maintenance on the diesel engine so it does not break down while someone is using it. The yearly income is also based on what they make an hour and if they work overtime or not. Smaller cities and towns diesel mechanic make less than suppose a diesel mechanic working in a bigger city such as Houston, TX or Chicago, IL. Someone with a higher education or more experience would make more than someone right out of high school. “$27,270 to $42,730 to $63,760+ salary range” (Encyclopedia 38). Diesel mechanics have a lot of benefits because most of them work for the union. They get health insurance dental, eye, and other benefits. Diesel mechanics get paid vacation and holiday bonuses. They even get to travel sometimes when another shop needs help or somewhere else needs
