Did Mexico Really Want War

Improved Essays
Mexico got affected mostly in terms of economy because if Mexico had kept the land it used to have (including Texas) it would have had around yearly 4.355 trillion more US dollars (Or $4,355,000,000). In fact California makes up to 2.4 Trillion US dollars yearly (Or 2,400,000,000), so basically half of the GDP in Mexico's former territory. So, in conclusion if Mexico had kept their territory and all the company's that are currently there, Mexico would have a GDP of 5.616 Trillion Dollars (Or $5,616,000,000).

US didn’t really want war, instead it was because in that time they believed that the expansion of the US was inevitable and both justified. The cause of the war was that the US was trying to annex Texas into the union because they knew that Texas had fine agricultural production, cotton in particular.

The United States in the years prior to 1841 saw little advance in field artillery tactics. However, European commanders had seen much success in the implementation of Artillery and new tactics, sparking an American interest in what had made their artillery tactics so successful. The Mexican American War would be the proving ground for the new American strategy of implementing field artillery on the battlefield, and how it has shaped the modern infantry commander’s use of it. In the years leading up to the Mexican American War, a tactically minded secretary of war Joel Poinsett arranged for an expedition to Europe to determine which of the European artillery pieces and tactics were best suited for the American forces.…

The United States was unjustified in going to war with Mexico because Americans abused the idea of the Manifest Destiny, broke the laws the Mexican government had set, and the annexation of Texas was used as “a declaration of war (Doc. C, paragraph 2)” by Mexico. The Manifest Destiny was the belief that the United States was to stretch its borders from coast to coast. President Polk was a strong believer in Manifest Destiny. Mexico was just another obstacle in his way. He believed that Mexico was “hampering our power, limiting our greatness and checking the fulfillment of our Manifest Destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence…

After all, the United States is built on these moral principles, and afforded to anyone willing to exercise these values. On the other hand, America is also built from the tired, sore, and bleeding hands of men, women, and children who, with promises of a better future, liberated themselves from one evil only to be introduced to a different kind of evil, one more oppressing than the one they fled from.
