It is supposedly said that Jezebel is a spirit who consumed the body of the Harlot queen. She caused over ten million people to bow to Baal, a god for fertility. She brought them to forsake the covenant, destroy sacred altars, and kill prophets. Her name is translated to ‘without cohabitation’. It means to live together. In other words, the Jezebel spirit refuses to dwell in a body unless there is complete control. She yields to no one. She controlled her husband like a puppet. Jezebel had her husband build her a temple for Baal, as well as one for Ashtoreth. Then she brought four-hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and four-hundred prophets of Ashtoreth, and treated them like they were royals like herself. She sought to crush every single follower of Jehovah worship and to murder every true prophet of God. She almost had her way, some of the prophets turned into “yes” men for Ahab. Another group hid in a cave and were fed by one of Ahab’s men, Obadiah. A prophet named, Elijah, was the only one brave enough to go against her. He called down the fire of heaven and slayed the prophets of Baal. She swore that she would stop at nothing until Elijah was dead. He ran in fear and the continuation of Baal worship lived on. She was the queen of manipulation in the story which takes place during the Salem Witch Trials. Abigail spreads death and destruction wherever she walks. In Act I, her manipulation tactic is on full display when she is caught toying with witchcraft and somehow manages to pin it all on Tituba, the servant. It was Abigail who convinced Tituba to go out and cast spells and she turns on her to stab her in the back. Because of her abrupt affair with John Proctor, she becomes obsessed with him. Abigail does everything she can to do away with his wife Elizabeth. She tried to have Tituba place a spell on her so she could take her spot next to John Proctor. In Act II, Abigail watches Mary Warren make a poppet and see hers stick the needle back into the doll for safe keeping. She is willing to hurt herself to put the blame on Elizabeth. She stabs herself and accuses Elizabeth’s spirit of doing it. The court believes her alibi and the judges rule in favor. Then she knew she had complete control in the court. In Act III, Abigail pretends to become possessed when “she is looking about in the air, clasping her arms as though cold”. As the unofficial “ringleader”, the girls around her follow her lie out of fear. They all blamed Mary Warren for the witchcraft that was supposedly taking place.
