Did George Make The Right Choice

At the end of the book Of Mice and Men, George shot Lennie behind the head. After he shot Lennie, George seemed like he regretted shooting Lennie. The question is if George had a choice of shooting Lennie and did he make the right choice. In life they say that everyone has a choice, a choice to choose who they love, what to do, or where they want to go. In life, people feel like they don’t have a choose. This is the case with George, he felt that he had not choice but to shoot Lennie. As you read on, I with be discussing about, if George had any other choice, what the other choices would have been and what would have been the outcome of the other choice.

When you first read it, it seems that George made the right choice in killing Lennie. Others will say that George rushed things and did not think things through. Really, it would go, either way, George thought it was good to kill Lennie to stop his suffering. On the other hand, George did not have the right to kill Lennie without thinking about what he could have done to tell Lennie. It just depends on which way you look at things. George knew Lennie's for years now, it was hard for him to pull the trigger. For example “George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head. The hand shook violently.” (SteinBeck 106). The guys would have done the same thing that George did, Slim told Curley after seeing Lennie dead, “A guy got to sometimes.” (SteinBeck 107). Slim is saying that sometimes you have to do what you think might be right. In conclusion, George did make the right decision to kill Lennie, so he can stop suffering and finally rest. If he would have let Lennie live, Lennie would have gone to jail, be hanged or be beaten to death. In George and Lennie’s world, people would not hire or get near Lennie because he is mentally challenged. They might think that it is contagious, so they keep their distance from them. Life is filled with many decisions to make, right or wrong. In the end, we would always have our doubts about the decision that we made and what difference it would have
