In the poem “The Tyger”, author William Blake switches tones by using various tools. Some of the tools used were diction, syntax, figurative language, and imagery. The tone at the beginning of the story was one of wonder, but that quickly transitions to more dread toward the end.
Two key tools used to develop the work were diction and syntax. Diction played a major role because it was the word choice and use of words that made the story so amusing. For instance, the first and last sentences, although almost identical, leave you with a completely altered impression. Words were used to make the reader feel powerful while simultaneously vulnerable. In addition, syntax, another tool used, helps draw the reader in with its setup.
