At Dicks Sporting goods, the upper management uses ethical determination to make selections based on what they need in employees. This theory is also known as the ethical theory of Utilitarianism. In Utilitarianism, the sum of actions get evaluated and the results of those actions decide if that action is justified or proven as wrong. Assuming Utilitarianism is negatively connotated theory, it solely relies on the idea of ending the action with the best case scenario consequence. As in most jobs throughout America, the hiring process follows the common stages of contacting a manager, interviewing with that manager, followed by getting hired. The theory of Utilitarianism can be easily compared to Dicks Sporting Goods’ hiring process because they are mandated to hire only individuals that can continue to grow their company for years to come. …show more content…
Managers, over the course of their time, have been trained specifically to hire and manage employees that work under them. In Utilitarianism incorrect decisions are sometimes made resulting in the action taking a turn for the worst. An example of this at Dicks Sporting Goods would be if a manager hired an employee that was unfit for the job. In that case, the employee would not be able to efficiently sell Dicks’ products and the company would avoid maximizing profits. The hiring of this employee would be contrary to the beliefs of Utilitarianism. From my experience, Dicks Sporting Goods maintains an appropriate effort to hire the correct employees and continue its Utilitarianism ways day after
