In the following contents, I will demonstrate how Dick 's Sporting Goods grows to one of largest authentic full-line sporting goods retailer in the US. And what can we learn from their market strategies and how do they achieve their sales ' goal through effective marketing strategy.
DICK’S Sporting Goods was founded in 1948  when Dick Stack was only 18 year old , was working at an Army supply store in a small town in state of New York. A fisherman who is believed to be the owner of a local store approached Dick and took a look at a list of all products that Dick want to buy from here. The owner then told him that it is not possible to get the whole stuff on the list. He thought Dick was not serious of buying anything from the store. Dick was very upset and head back to his grandmother’s house.
Dick told his grandma what happened at the told and his grandmother asked how much it would cost to build the store himself. He said it would cost $250 to $300. His grandmother went back to her bedroom and opened a glass candy then jar. She took all the money from the candy jar and told him to open a store himself. It was her entire life savings. Young Dick was very emotional and used the money to open a bait shop. He worked very hard and dedicated to expand the variety of goods in his store. By 1959, he expanded his…
