Dick Devos: West Michigan Aviation Academy

Dick Devos is the founder of the West Michigan Aviation Academy. The school was first opened in 2010. This is a public charter high school that is geared towards students who have an interest in aviation, engineering and technology. The West Michigan Aviation Academy is a tuition-free school.

The West Michigan Aviation Academy's mission is to provide students with a challenging educational program so that they will be prepared for college and a successful career. This school encourages students to do their best in the classroom and has a no D policy. West Michigan Aviation Academy also sets high behavioral standards. Furthermore, West Michigan Aviation Academy places emphasis on values like accountability, trust and respect.

    Andrew, I truly believe that trade schools or some call them vocational schools are vital for positively influencing students particularly in the Alaskan villages. Believe it or not there are villages that do not have broad band availability let alone dial up capability to support cell phones, laptops or computers.
