One of the many themes present in this version of The Diary of Anne Frank, is when everything else is taken away from you, you can still have your faith to rely on. This theme is carried out/shown all throughout the play, most notably when the families are celebrating Hanukkah. An example of this theme is when Mr. Frank is giving the prayer, “May these lights remind us that we should ever look to God, whence cometh our help” (Goodrich 315). The celebration of Hanukkah is one of the many symbols of Judaism and the Jews. Even though the reason the families are in hiding is because of their beliefs, they still put their faith into it during these harsh times.
