Conflict is a major literary element that creates tension and interest in a story by adding doubt in the outcome. People think of conflict as something negative such as tension, withdraw, trust, stimulating, revealing, resolution, liberation, progress, and intention. It is important to include conflict to a novel because the reader should have a reason should have a reason to care about the outcome and to continue reading to learn that outcome. Outcome is everything that happens between the establishing of the conflict and the resolution of it that determines if the reader will stick around to find out what happens. I truly believe that conflict is what creates the main purpose of the story and without it, there is no journey. Conflict is the source of change that engages the reader. What does your main character value? Do any of their values potentially conflict? How can you reveal the conflicts in those values? Do any of those values conflict with themselves? Unresolved conflict can lead to feelings of hopelessness when we feel unheard or cannot see any positive resolution. Emotions become invested and it can also feel impossible to move forward but it does not have to be this way. Medication can help you have a low temper that can help set up the conversation that remains focused on the issues in the conflict and ensures that everyone feels heard and also supports those involved to work towards their goals.
