“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life” (Steve Jobs). Being yourself can be challenging, especially when change feels most needed. You don’t need to be someone else to make a difference. In fact, you can make an even bigger difference by being yourself. The characters in “The Diary of Anne Frank” and “Freedom Writers” show how important it is to be yourself, and don’t let anyone change who you are. To begin with, the characters in “Freedom Writers” and “The Diary of Anne Frank” show that it is important to be yourself in different ways. Everyone in the annexe wants Anne to grow up and act the way they want her to act (Anne Frank). On the other hand, Mrs. Gruwell is a new teacher at Woodrow Wilson High, and tries very hard to teach difficult, and sometimes violent students (Freedom Writers). Furthermore, even though everyone in the annexe was pressuring Anne to change, Anne doesn’t change who she is (Anne Frank). On the other hand, Mrs. Gruwell is put through harsh times via her students where it is very hard not to give in and change, however, she pushes through and continues to be herself (Freedom …show more content…
Anne is being talked about in the annexe about her attitude, and other aspects that are negative about her. Even with things so difficult and people depending on her to change, Anne does nothing other than continue to be herself (Anne Frank). Likewise, Mrs. Gruwell is constantly blabbered about and even put into the newspaper for her teaching methods. Most of the ways Mrs. Gruwell teaches are not spoken about positively by her colleagues. Mrs. Gruwell continues to keep teaching the way she normally teaches even after what has been said about her teaching (Freedom Writers).
