Diary Of Anne Frank Argumentative Essay Examples

¨I don't think of all the misery, but of the beauty that still remains.¨ There are two things that drive people. They are hope and fear. During World War II (1939-1945) Jews thought they only had fear to control them. Only a few had hope of surviving and that kept them from giving up. My prompt is ¨What is more powerful -- hope or fear?¨. Fear drives people to work so they can prevent something from happening while hope drives people to work so something does happen. My first source for this argumentative essay is ¨The Diary of Anne Frank¨. I chose this as one of my sources because there are many examples of hope and fear in this novel. (In The Diary of Anne Frank, pg. 43 line 39, Mrs.Frank states, ¨There's no hope to be had. I know that.¨

In the synthesis project, one overriding question that is answered using outside resources and novels read throughout the year is: what are the differences between hope and envy? At first, when brainstorming, the question of the different definitions and connotations of hope and envy arose. Some define hope as being “dangerous” (Shawshank Redemption 1994), while others believe that hope is a mechanism that shines light during difficult and dark times. Meursault, in The Stranger, argues that hope blinds someone from living in the present because hoping requires looking to the future. However, hope gives some people’s lives a purpose.…

On February 1, 2001, Michelle McCottry called 911 and told the operator her ex-boyfriend, Adrian Davis, had beat her with his fists and fled the scene. Davis was arrested and charged with felony violation of a domestic no-contact order. During the trial, McCottry did not testify and the prosecution used McCottry’s 911 call as evidence of her injuries caused by Davis (Davis v. Washington, n.d.). Davis objected to the use of the 911 call as evidence, citing his Sixth Amendment confrontation clause (Davis v. Washington, n.d.). This clause states that the defendant has the right to confront any witness against him.…

Many have the belief that hope is beneficial. However, hope can be dangerous, for it can easily cloud your judgment. In “Doves on Wires,” by Joseph Kirman, a father is easily distracted from the dreadful circumstances of the Jews in World War II by the idea of hope. In “Street for Arrivals, Street for Departures,” by Charlotte Delbo, travelers during World War II focus only on how good their lives can be at their destinations, forgetting about the dangers of the death camps. Both authors use mood and action to suggest that hope -- particularly false hope -- distracts from fear.…

“You’ll never find a better sparring partner than adversity” (Meir, Golda). Adversity is the problems or troubles that make your life imperfect and burdensome; fortunately, adversity is not invincible and can be overcome with hope (The New Survivors), power (Life Isn’t Fair – Deal with It), and acceptance (For Many Returning Vets, ‘Moral Injury’ Just as Difficult) “The New Survivors” by Pamela Weintraub describes hope and how it is essential in overcoming adversity. For example, towards the end of the article it states, “Hopeful patients managed their illness themselves instead of letting outsiders pull the strings” (Weintraub 3). What this shows is that a human being going through adversity can have others attempting to tear down their hope…
