Diary of a wimpy kid (Book 1) is a comedy graphic novel written by jeff kinney. This novel begins with an introduction to Greg Heffley entering a new school year in middle school. Greg is happy to have Rowley, his best friend , along for the ride. But when Rowley starts to shine in school, Greg tries to use his best friend 's newfound popularity to his own advantage, kicking off a chain of events that will test the strength of their friendship.

Being able to read graphic novels allows children with variety types of comics and the choice to choose which one to read. By identifying how a graphic novel works; meaning how the format is written, young kids will be able to find the combination of elements in graphic novels and its unique format. Understanding the format and the combination of elements kids will be able to compare writing to poetry and their creative writing will enhance. Allowing kids to read graphic novels and comics is the best way to help them in literature and prevent them from becoming struggling readers. In the comic What Kinds Of Kids Read Comics by Kan Kat, the author states “The students, both boys and girls, who come to book club range from struggling readers to eager, gifted readers, and they all grab the comics before anything else” By banning comics and graphic novels we would be taking something precious to kids that doesn’t cause any harm to them. Comics enhance kids imagination as imagination is limited to what you have seen or can imagine.
We should not ban comics and graphic novels. Reasons we shouldn’t are because allowing children to read them causes no harm. Kids should be able to have the variety and choice in choosing what to read. Graphic novels helps improve struggled readers in language understanding and vocabulary strength. Graphic novels enhance imagination, improves vocabulary, and a lot more that affect kids positively. Also, its great to just grab a comic for entertainment instead of having kids glued to their
