In the article “The Last Meow” published in The New Yorker in 2003 the author Burkhard Bilger states, “Americans now spend $19 billion a year on veterinary care for their pets, up from $11 billion just seven years ago. Add to that the cost of pet food and other supplies, and the number rises to $47 billion, nearly three times as much as the federal government spends on welfare grants.” Bilger claims, “clearly our love affair with animals has gotten out of control ( Part 8 para 49)”. There is no doubt that Americans spend a ridiculous amount of money on their beloved pets; money that could be spent improving their quality of their own life and the life of others. “Carly the Cranky Cat’s closet was cluttered with coconuts, crabs, and cauliflower, and Bart the Blue Baboon’s was bestrewn with broken balloons, bubble-gum, and brunch from the beach,” I read aloud to my class. I was in 5th grade and had Mr. Calvaresi. This was the kind of odd creativity he encouraged and allowed us to have when doing our spelling homework. He told us to make our sentences as creative as possible. He definitely helped influence me to be a more creative and expressive writer.…

He is ejected out of his Spitfire plane, and he falls unconscious and wakes up in a hospital, where he is informed he is in Brighton, a city where he has long been acquainted with. This brings him some degree of reassurance. He begins to question that something isn’t right, however, when his nurse apologizes over how hard the water is in the hospital(when Brighton’s water is especially soft) and he hears German Junker 88s flying overhead and is appalled over their brazen attitude to fly over enemy domain in daylight.…

“Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different” -Stephen King. I find that the movie paints a perfect picture well, on the other hand, reading the book you have to let your imagination take over and create images in your head of what might the scene look like. “ The cat in the hat” was a well-written book by celebrated children’s book author Dr. Seuss, originally published in 1957 and a well-developed movie directed by Bo Welch, after reading the book and watching the movie I found the movie much more entertaining than just reading the book.…
