Diary Of A Part-Time Indian Analysis

In the New York Times Best Seller book, “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” written by novelist, short story writer, poet, and filmmaker, Sherman Alexie is a story about the narrator who is a young boy named Arnold Spirit, Jr. Throughout the story, Arnold, also known as Junior, is met with lots of challenges and difficult people to deal with. Within the story there are different characters and types of people that Junior has to learn to deal with. Also, Junior has to learn how to get through his new school and life as it unravels before him. Unfortunately, Junior must learn how to deal with the racial comments, actions, and slurs that come with this newfound territory. However, Junior is able get through these hard times and in return becomes a better person and is made stronger by his difficulties. Within, the story Junior meets many new people, both those that are easy to get along with and those who are not so kind to him. For example, Penelope is a girl that right away attracts Junior. However, she comes with her own set of problems such as she is anorexic. With this, I can relate because I know people who were or are anorexic, it is a very serious and depressing condition. Such as; being bullied by other kids that he goes to school with. To this I can relate, because I know kids who have been bullied and I can understand how it would be hard to get used to a new place while being bullied. In addition to this problem, Junior had to get used to a new school where the people were not considerably nice to him. Which I can understand because I can only imagine how hard it would be to have to move to a new school and social environment.
