Diary Entry: 8/20/2017 - The Life of Rai
The day i decided to apply to colleges was the starting point of a new chapter in my life. Most of the people in my family never even finished high school, education was a complete joke to them. Being around all that negative energy can really make a person follow in that path. For me, the negative energy pushed me to do better. Every time someone tells me i cant do something or something will be difficult for me to conquer, it makes me want to put more effort into completeing it. Starting with high school i didnt enroll into regular classes. I made sure i was in a very rigourous program that would expand my mind and make me think globally. Thats why i chose to enroll into the IB program that was offered

College was not something that I was told to strive for the reason being that everyone in my family is going or got by life adequate without it. They had responsibilities at a young age and never really got to finish school or explore any intellectual concepts. Not going to college is a norm thing in my family.…

The softest jolt stirred Tristaric from troubled dreams into unpleasant heat and humidity. Clamminess under his arms disgusted him and he touched the plates of his staff changing the environment within the cabin. It was two days since leaving the capital and the four magii should have propelled his carriage halfway across the Empire to his destination by now. Snapping his fingers and pointing to the window, one of the six servants pulled back the curtain. Searing sunlight poured in.…

In my American government class, we use the term political socialization to describe the influence one’s family has on their own political identity. Although the political aspect of political socialization remains exclusive to the term, the concept that families have a profound influence on the social development of children is wide-ranging, even helping explain people's perceived value of a college education. In my own life, the expected influence of my family's experience with higher education on my own outlook never took. My family's own experience has presented me with both opportunities and challenges in pursuing my educational goals as well as testing the integrity of the goals.…

Date: September 20, 1957 Dear Diary, After a long class discussion on the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848, I have realized three things about myself as a junior at Smith College. The first is that I, as a female, am truly lucky to be here. I am privileged enough to receive a quality education, that will aid in the pursuance of my dream of becoming a lawyer. Secondly, I have also gathered that I live in a time in which the dreams of someone like me are not always socially supported. As I think about my gender, I have concluded that I inhabit an identity that privilege and oppress different aspects of my life.…

Journal Entry: I woke up late for class this morning, so I didn’t get to eat a good breakfast. I went to the store on the way to campus and got some orange juice and a granola bar to tide to over until after my classes. I wouldn’t necessarily count this as one of my two days that I get to go out and eat because it was a snack and it was partially healthy. When I got out of class, I made a couple of sandwiches while I did the last day in my journal so I could submit it before I went to work. On Wednesday’s I usually don’t work that late, but just in case I did I got all my homework done.…

Two developmental milestones that I have faced during my twenty-two years of life, thus far, are beginning college and ending college. Starting college in particular was a developmental milestone because it was different than anything I have ever experienced and for my family to experience as well. I am the first generation in my family to attend college. Both of my parents went straight into the work force after they graduated high school, and were not encouraged by their parents to attend college. I have two older siblings who decided not to attend college, because they wanted to go straight into the work force, and long term did not want to have to worry about paying back student loans.…

Rationale I wrote a diary based on the literary text A Brave New World, because I wanted to express Lenina´s feelings in her best and worst days of her life. It was written with an informal tone and is addressed for a teenager´s audience. In my diary, I used first person perspective with phrases like “I met a handsome blonde man named Jhon” and “I realized that it was something that made me feel good”. I tried as well to use an easy level of vocabulary to make the understanding of emotions and ideas clearly with words like “furious, bad, and lonely” and “I´m crazy”.…

For some, college is a big leap. You go from being cradled for seventeen years of your life to having all responsibilities being placed into your hands. I for one, had to make that adjustment and for me that was huge. I always had things handled by someone whether it be my parents or teacher depending on the situation. Nothing was ever fully my responsibility.…
