Mostly all my family came from Mexico to the US for a better future for all of us. The day Diane Guerrero’s parents were deported to Mexico, she was coming home from school. At that time she was at a performing arts high school, she very excited to go home and tell her parents about how her experience was from being at school. She arrived home to dinner being ready, but her house empty and her family was nowhere to be found. Her neighbors were the ones who gave her the news about the immigration task force picking up her parents and siblings, and they were detained and returned back to colombia where they had originally came from. She once said she did not what to do other than hide under her bed, in fear thinking that someone was coming for her and take her away also. She was scared for her parents and brothers because of the fact they were detained in jail, she had no idea what they would have to be going through. Guerrero left alone not even one person went back to look for her, to see how she was doing. She had to face everything alone, she had no one to be with through the toughest time in her life. Her story is one of the most heartbreaking stories I have ever heard. It is even more sad because this did not just happen to her, there have been millions of families who also go through this struggle. She inspires me and many other young latin-american girls to reach our goals no matter what obstacles we have to overcome. She proved to society that times will get tough, but no matter what, you have to put your problems aside and achieve all your goals you have set yourself to reach for. She has gone through one of the toughest times and at such a young age but she was very brave. Guerrero released a book, In the Country We Love: My Family Divided, in honor of her parents being detained and deported when she was the age if fourteen, in 2016. Stating that there is so many undocumented families living in the United states with children who are US citizens, but have to face many scares of being separated, and their stories are not told. She wants to speak for all the families out there just like hers. Guerrero is trying to put a stop into deporting families, she has met up with many leaders of Immigrant Customs Enforcement, ICE, so they can stop giving those families scares and helping them into a better life instead.
