Motherhood has been viewed as a glorified state throughout decades and mothers have been held to a high standard. Abby Arnold, the author of “The Rhetoric of Motherhood”, explains that these views have “became the justification for political and economic restrictions on women, the foundation for placing on the mother sole responsibility for how her children developed.” Through our language, lack of considering the fathers roles, corporate structure and stereotypes, we are still stuck with these ideologies of motherhood. It is clear that although we have made many advances in our society of accepting working mothers, we still have a way to go. The “myths of motherhood still permeate our culture” and restrict mothers from having a career and from being a mom (Arnold,2003).…

The Parenting Techniques And Its Effect On Today's Kids By Laura Fobler Sep 19, 2012 Growing up I lived with a family where it was myself and 2 younger brothers being raised by an absent father and a devoted mother. While our father had little influence in our life away from financial support, my mother dedicated her entire life towards taking care of her kids and making sure we had a healthy youth. She did not have the advantage of advanced parenting methods because we grew up in a time where parents were simply expected to raise their kids on blind luck rather than through the expertise of psychology. My youngest brother and I could easily be described as healthy and happy children, often appreciating exactly what was given to us and enjoying life most often. Granted there were times of revolution or defiance but these phases were short and few between.…

Within this relationship, multiple aspects, to include emotional warmth and acceptance as well as control demonstrated by the parent, designate the parenting style, which can have a positive or negative influence on the development of the child. As Broderick and Blewitt (2015) highlighted that a correlation exists between parenting style and child development, the authors cautioned the counselor against assuming parenting style is the only influence on the development of the child’s…

In the movie Babies (2010), there were some distinct differences in the development of each baby based on its gender. As stated in Santock (2016, p. 169), boys are more likely to engage in rough tumble play as well as risk taking. These characteristics were seen in the Mongolian child, Beyarjargal. Since he was the only male baby, he stood out as the mischievous one compared to the other three female babies.
