Diamond Lake Descriptive Writing

Everyone has his or her paradise or happy place, a place where one can forget about the stresses of life and let loose. My paradise is the lake, I’m sure this is no surprise from a Minnesotan. Any lake will do-though I do have a few favorites. One of my favorites is in Atwater, Minnesota. Here at my grandparent’s house on the shores of Diamond Lake I find my paradise. Diamond Lake is out in the middle of endless farming fields. Pulling up to the house I feel pure joy. The home is a 2-story log cabin that my family built themselves. I cherish the cabin’s character that gives it a lived-in feeling and a homey vibe. The tacky lighthouse theme adds to this effect. The shore of the lake is always busy with people on the weekends. The neighbors, a bit rowdy, always try to include us …show more content…
Chairs line his yard like an auditorium. All their friends sip on beer as their show begins. I always looked forward to this, for the colors and sounds are enhanced sitting directly under them. My neck is always sore after the show. The variety of sounds and colors keep my memorized. Once my siblings and I have had our fun staring across the lake we run over to our little boxes of fireworks, always disappointed we don’t have any that shoot towards the sky, though we still cant contain our excitement. I was always in charge of this part. I felt very proud to be able to set up and light the fireworks for my families viewing. Throughout the night, various color and sounds shoot thorough the air. It’s a beautiful scene. When I would close my eyes to sleep I could always still hear the cracks and cheers from my bed. There is nothing about my time at the lake I don’t enjoy. It is these memories I associate with my childhood, carefree and easily fascinated. Reflecting on these memories makes the desire to return great, making me appreciate the all summer days I was able to spend in the sand growing

Dante Alighieri once said, “There is no greater sorrow than to recall a happy time when miserable.” Though not directly mentioned, the idea of the quote seems to be explored thoroughly in both “Where I Lived, and What I Lived For,” by Henry David Thoreau, and “Once More to the Lake,” by E.B. White. While both of these authors float around several thoughts including reality, advancements, and living in general, they take very different approaches to do so. In “Once More to the Lake,” White reminisces on his journey back to a place he spent many summers as a child. His essay takes the form of a narrative, with him explaining in great detail the beauty and isolation of the lake.…

My first day on the Seahawk has been anything like a pleasant cruise down the River Thames. I woke up in that cramped box called a room. It is rodent and insect infested (Wortis 18). It has such a low ceiling that when I awakened this morning I hit my head on it. I was planning on leaving the ship except when I went to the deck we were in open sea.…

During the spring break of my sophomore year of high school, I was given the opportunity to volunteer with A.E Finley YMCA. I had been going to the YMCA since I could talk and walk, and I was thrilled to be given the opportunity. However, this wasn’t normal volunteering at the YMCA 2 miles down the road, it was a volunteer mission trip in Lima, Peru. At that point in my life, I never even thought about anywhere outside of Raleigh. I had been to Pittsburgh, PA to visit family, but that was the extent to my travels.…

Glistening on Lake Michigan, the sun peeked from behind the clouds. I rolled up the bottom of my jeans, to just below my knees, and slid my ivory ankles and feet into the lake. I let the wind play with my hair and tie the bleach-blonde ends into little knots--the ones that were always tough to untangle. How long am I going to be sitting here? My palms pushed through the baked, thirsty sand, leading my fingers to do the same.…

Spring break A hot and bright day is accompanied by a “U” shape shoreline on the beach. With a light breeze, tourists could perceive the salty air of the sea, the lack of the debris, and the small crowd around makes it seem that it is a private beautiful beach. The sand is golden brown covered with some fresh foot prints from the vacationing tourists, the sky is light blue with no birds or clouds, and it was a very sunny day. There was one group of tourists sitting on the sand, enjoying what it seemed to be a good conversation; meanwhile, one of the males was attracted to a handmade bracelet from a local native.…

The waiting was categorized by a shaky heartbeat and anticipation moving to the beat of an uneasy samba. My feet teetered off of the dock as crows began to circle their deviant ways around my head, my eyes saw the 12 foot drop where air meets water and cringed. My mind was no longer its own, but a mere pendulum swinging back and forth between diving in or surrendering to stagnance. With no past and an unsure future, there’s a certain brilliance towards this confidence and fleeing logic that you don’t have the rest of the year.…

But, this year we decided to hold our show 20 feet in front of our cabin so the parents could gape from inside, safe from the infamous red dots. The kids and two brave adults suited up with bug spray and an excess of clothing to combat the mosquitoes. My uncle, who is not the most safety conscious person I know, absent-mindedly set up a launching pad with a couple of boards because the ground wasn’t level enough where we wanted to launch the fireworks. He stood back, happy with his…
