For me, the understanding and colouring of the modern history of Blackstone Lake starts with the stories and biographies of the settlers that tamed and worked the land surrounding the lake. As they did so, a historical framework of personalities, knowledge of the of the lake and a system of morals developed. I started out to answer what seemed to be some major questions to ask the archives and of history itself. They being the origins of each settler, why they or their ancestors came to Canada, and then to Ontario if not directly and why and when they came to the Parry Sound area. I felt that there must have been highly compelling reasons for why a family would leave their home country.…

In Iona Creek Reserve, weeds were located around the grassy area. This is a major issue, not just because weeds are an invasive and fast growing species, but also because there are endangered plants located on the site. The Blue Gum High Forest is the main endangered species on the site. This forest sheltered the Sydney region before European settlement, and is now limited to small bushland along a small range of suburbs in Sydney. The Blue Gum Forest is one of six main indigenous communities of Sydney and listed as critically endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), and an endangered ecological community in NSW under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 .…

In Our Town, the geography of the book enhances its message. Right in the first paragraph, we are given the longitude and latitude of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, which is where the play is set. These coordinates give us a lot of detail about the setting. We know that it is in New England, an area that experiences all four seasons. The seasons correspond with the theme of the book about how fast time passes.…

Grover's Corners, NH vs. Worland, WY In the play Our Town, a man very much like a narrator tells the audience all about how small Grover's Corners is and how everyone knows who everyone is. Our Town is clearly a representation - and largely a celebration - of small-town American life. Nearly every character in the play love’s Grover's Corners, even as many of them acknowledge its small-mindedness and dullness. Its sleepy simplicity, in fact, is its major point of attraction for many characters. Dr. Gibbs, for instance, who refuses to travel, thus cultivates his ignorance of life outside of Grover's Corners in order to remain content within it; his son, too, decides not to go away to college because everything he could want is available at home. Of course this staunchly conservative position creates some of the major problems in the play.…

The Imperial Valley: Permanent Oasis by Cory Phillips Imperial County, California has been a major agricultural, political, and commercial center in Southeastern California for over 100 years. Although the peripheral agricultural activities have been the focus and source of the region’s economy, the area’s role in agribusiness has also facilitated much urban growth. The farms in the Imperial Valley bring about $1,000,000,000 to the state’s economy each year. This rural and urban expansion has been enabled, exclusively, by the delivery of water from the Colorado River, via the All-American Canal, to the otherwise desiccated rift zone by the Imperial Irrigation District (IID). To date, the Imperial Valley has no source…
