Patriot: Not a smart idea? I will tell you why it's a smart idea.
Loyalist: Okay, but you need to hear my side of it too. A strong unified British Empire is good for everyone. It ensures a stable economy and provides protection. Without the mighty empire, there would be war and chaos. There will be crime and disease if there is independence. The British Empire provides safety for America.
Patriot: I see. However, One reason that the British empire should not rule the colonies anymore is because we should have our own leaders chosen by the people, not just rulers chosen by Britain …show more content…
They are still part of the British Empire and are not their own government. Independence is against the laws of Britain.
Patriot: Maybe, but we are being taxed by the British without any say or representation in government or justice. The taxation is very unfair and is leaving many people poor and on the streets. It is extremely unjust and we want liberty and freedom for all.
Loyalist: Taxes are only due to pay for the French & Indian War which was fought to protect the colonies. The only reason you are paying taxes is for a war that saved colonists. Taxes are the right of every colonist to thank the soldiers in the war. They are just a normal part of colonist’s life.
Patriot: We are the soldiers that were in the war. Many colonists fought in the French & Indian War, so we shouldn’t have to pay even more that the losses we have already suffered. We’ve done our part in helping the colonies already and taxes are a just burden that the British Empire has laid upon the colonists.
Loyalist: American colonies would be weak without Britain, they need Britain to support and protect them. America is only a small settlement and it needs the British Empire to help it grow and flourish. America has thrived under the rule of Britain, why stop it
