    1. The wife of Young Goodman Brown is named “Faith” for a reason. It gives the reader a clue that Faith was named to represent the faith of Young Goodman Brown; such as the faith in this own life or the faith in god. For example when it states “Come, Goodman Brown, cried his fellow-traveler; this is a dull pace for the beginning of the journey. Take my staff, if you are soon weary” and “We are but a little way in the forest yet.”…

The latest part of the reading has gone by really slow as the past 5 chapters only seem to be in to two different settings during a single night. It seems like Holden is recollecting way more than a real human being would be able to recollect. He is telling us every single possible detail about where he is and what he is experiencing. I have also found it hard to connect to this portion of the book as he his dunk for a good bit of it. The part I was able to connect with the book is Phoebe as she acts similar to my younger brother.…

Within this journal, I will be evaluating the themes in To Kill A Mockingbird. To begin, one of the themes displayed in the novel is the coexistence of the innocent and evil. One way the book conveys this is when the evil jury kills an innocent black man, Tom. I say this figuratively because the prison camp actually killed him, but the jury got him there. The jury knew Tom was innocent but back then, blacks were always guilty no matter the situaton.…

Who really knows what caused the Civil War? Could it be westward expansion or different cultures? There are many reasons that could have collaborated together to put the nation at war. The three main causes of the war are slavery, distinction within the North and the South, and the election of Abraham Lincoln. Why would there be peace with a nation that’s divided into two that are the complete opposite of each other?…

For my visualization project I chose to make a comic about the three primary sources: 12.1: “A North Carolina Law Prohibits Teaching of Slaves to Read or Write”, 14.4: :Margaret Junkin Preston Describes Southern Suffering in her Diary”, and 15.1: “William Howard Day, an African American Minister, Salutes the Nation and a Monument to Abraham Lincoln”. Source 12.2 is about a law that stated that slaves could not be taught how to read or write. Source 14.4 is about Margaret Preston, a slave, who wrote in her diary about how she was treated and what her days consisted of. Source 15.1 is a speech by William Howard Day who praises the Nation and Lincoln for freeing slaves. I chose these three sources because they were all connected through slavery and the Civil War.…

I miss you and the others at home awfully, but the tedious past two years of battle have been in our favor, so at least my absence has been of some aid to the Confederacy. Life back at the plantation seems like a dream when you live as a soldier. Working on the vile-smelling fields with our slaves for hours upon hours will always appeal more to me than the copious hours of marching and drilling the generals put us through; the aching of my feet after every practice burns more than my throbbing fingers ever did. All of the pain endured because of my service cannot compare to the agony of being away from home so long. Calling what I feel “homesickness” would be a complete understatement.…

War is brutal, animalistic, and goes against human reason. “Civil War” by Guns N’ Roses is a anti-war protest song about how war only creates more hate and how it has been going on for so long and no change has occurred. The song presents examples of anaphora, allusion. and personification in order to set the tone, include multiple perspectives, and to highlight diction which creates pathos. Anaphora, which means the repetition of the same word or words at the beginning of successive phrases, clauses, or sentences.…

The Fenians: Terrorists or Freedom Fighters A big question that has arisen is whether the infamous Fenians were terrorists or freedom fighters; however, before we delve into this question we must know what a terrorist and freedom fighter is. A terrorist is a person who uses terrorism (violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. It is best to not come in the way of these people as they will get rid of anybody in their way whether innocent or foe to achieve their goal. An example of a terrorist group would be I.S.I.S and Al Qaeda.…
