2. Mustapha Mond is similar to Don John in that they both have power which feeds their ego. They both have the mindset that everything is in their power because they are in power. They create the rules, so they can choose whether to follow them or not. It surprises me that Mustapha seems so very accepting of John. They both have an interest in God which causes them to dig further into knowledge.
b. John finds the books that Mustapha was reading (like the Bible) important and should be shared and read by everyone, however, Mustapha says they’re “too old” and that they are “pornographic” meaning that these things that seem so right to us- to John- are that crazy and bad to the “new world.”
c. Mustapha believe that God doesn’t “really” exist anymore, rather no one knows or cares about him, but John finds him very real as he was raised in a place where God is freely accepted and known (at least a god anyway.) Wile God should be the person or thing people turn to in time of trouble, there is no trouble in this “perfect” world so no one is looking for something to turn to (except soma- but that’s a different story.)
d. Finally, John believes that values by which things- the world- should be judged are intrinsic. Mustapha believes that one cannot judge the world by its rules.
4. John has no use for society as it can do nothing to help him, in fact, so far, all it has done is kill his mother and cause him to go on a purge of himself. However, John is an interesting experiment as well as lesson to those in society. They can see how he reacted and hopefully some will see it as a reasonable reaction to their life or at least think about it. Maybe Mustapha will even see the good in letting the people try to understand the “old”
