ENGLAND: A.D 1377 I looked down at my mother, she looked so peaceful with her eyes closed and the cross of lead clutched in her hands. But to think that she would never awake to look at me and tell me I am going to be alright, to think that I never said a proper goodbye. To think that I will be alone and have to support myself. It was not long after I had found my mother, Asta that father Quinel arrived he wrapped the black shroud around her to symbolise her death.…
Lord of the Flies Journal Andrew Martinez Chapter 1 - The Sound of the Shell 2014/7/03 Lord of the flies although a bit confusing at first is pretty enthralling, It’s words are not as prominent so I need to think more about the context to fully get the gist of the sentence. I would rate this book 6 or 7 out of 10, because is was very detailed on what it was saying and I could imagine what was going on in the book. The thing that I did not like in the book. The story ends with Scout well on her way to growing up, as well. She now has some idea of what being a lady involves, and she no longer seems to mind so much. But importantly, Lee leaves readers with the remembrance that Scout the narrator is still a little girl.…

As I was reading the first chapter, I am predicting the kids will not meet Boo. I think they will not meet Boo because he is locked up. The people in the town have never really seen Boo. Scout says, “People said he existed, but Jem and I had never seen him” (Lee 10). People had seen Boo before but by using the word “existed” it makes Boo seem very distant and hidden.…
I am reading, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. In the chapters 10 through 15 a great deal of events happen. In the begging Atticus shoots a sick dog, and the kids find out about the past of their father being a good shot. Mrs. Dubose makes fun of Atticus so Jem gets mad and cuts her flowers. As a punishment he has to read to her, later she dies and Atticus told him when he read to her she became free.…
Satire: the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices. William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, uses satire to tell the readers about the nature of life. A part of living includes hardships and and not getting what is aimed for. Golding puts that lesson into the ending by not giving readers the satisfaction of getting what we want. Even when the boys turn to beasts…
