Entry 13 : BREAKING NEWS! Today in August 4, 1944, we have just discovered eight Jews hiding in the attic of an office building. I suspect they were hiding in the attic to avoid the terrible fate of the Holocaust. Unfortunately their efforts are in vain when German officials got information from some anonymous person about the location of their hiding spot. Nazis forcefully entered the office building and found the families. The families were arrested and sent to different concentration camps. The Jews found hiding were identified as Otto Frank, Edith Frank, Anne Frank, Margot Frank, Peter van Pels, Auguste van Pels, Hermann van Pels, and Fritz Pfeffer. Throughout the book we see Anne, the protagonist, grow up and mature. She starts off as a playful, silly, and didn’t really take anything seriously. After a while, she matures and grows up into a respectable woman. This is theme of growing up. You are going to have to grow up and be a bigger person. You have to be able to do things on your own and be responsible. You can’t be a kid forever and you will eventually have to grow up. Another lesson I learned was don’t let greed take over you. We see Mr. Van Daan let greed consume him. He ends up stealing food from himself taking away food from his own son. He gets caught and learns his lesson. He need to control his desires and be fair to everyone else. This is the theme of don’t let greed control you. If you let greed control you, then not many people will like you. Greed will ruin things in your life such as your relationships, health and debt. The last lesson I learned is not to take what you have for granted. This is pretty obvious throughout the book. You see the terrible conditions of how the Frank family, Van Daan Family, and Mr. Dussel have to go through. It teaches you that you should be appreciative of what you have because not everybody has that. You see they have to eat beans and can’t eat much else. You should be appreciative that you have something nice to eat. They don’t have much room to move and have to live in secret. Be happy you can go out to school and have a nice place to live. We need to remember these themes because they stay relevant in real life. We need to grow up from teenagers to young adults. We have to make sure greed doesn’t consume us and we always have to be grateful for what we
