I wanted to do something that would help other people. Now, as a sophomore, I have decided to be a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or Ultrasound Technician. I like everything about the job and think it is a great choice for me. 3 Diagnostic medical sonographers have many responsibilities. “The diagnostic medical sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients” (Sonographer-OBX). If they can’t read it, it could be dangerous for the patient. 10 Another thing a sonographer has to have is specific abilities and qualities. They have to be able to communicate with others in order to help their patient and do their job. Also, they have to be familiar with the technology so they can read the ultrasounds (Medical Sonographers). To become a sonographer, I would have to go to school and get my degree. 5 “There are bachelor’s programs in sonography, but …show more content…

Some positions a sonographer could advance to would be physician assistants or nurses. Most of the advancements have to do with higher pay. Hospitals, doctor’s offices, and medical laboratories are where sonographers work. I would like to either work at a hospital or a doctor’s office. I do not want to work at a medical laboratory because I am not familiar with it (Medical

I enjoy working as part of a team because of the shared ideas and interpretations. As a sonographer, I expect to work alongside physicians, nurses, fellow sonographers, and other medical staff to offer patients a comprehensive treatment plan. Observing current sonographers added a valuable perspective to my expectations; they ensured patient comfortability and knew when to either spend extra time scanning or push the scans quickly (i.e. abnormal valve function vs a frustrated toddler).…

Some of the general radiologic procedures I was able to observe were basic x-ray exams given to a variety of different individuals including babies, kids, teens, and adults. I was able to see and assist in many fluoroscopy exams, helping the technologist bring the patient into the exam room, mixing up the barium drink, and watching them drink it on a fluoroscopy machine. Once and awhile, I would see some special procedures like biopsies and an arthrogram, which was really neat. Some of the general radiologic procedures I was able to see in Fluoroscopy were some upper GI and small bowel series, swallowing exams, esophagram, barium enema, lumbar puncture, myelogram procedure, and a hysterosalpingogram. Other exams I observed were many chest x-rays from the ER, shoulder and humerus x-rays, baby x-ray, arm and hand x-ray, and a few abdominal…
