Diabetes type 2 is common disease a disease that couse cronic hyperglycaemia. The disease and it´s complications can by life threatening and reduse the quality of life. It‘s lifelong disease and usually begins in people over forty. The disease is strongly assosiated with obesity and physical inactivity.1 Over the last few decades the disease has been increaseing in the western countries following the obesity pandemic. Lifestyle changes can reduce the likelihood of developing the disease and even reverse pre-diabetes.
Diabetes is diagnosed when the plasma glucose is more than 11.1 or ≥ 7 mmol/l after fasting. Glucose 7.8-11.1 mmol/l, 2 hours after glucose load or 6.1 – 7.8 mmol/l after fasting indicates impeared glucose tolerance.2 …show more content…
Lack of insulin may also develop as the disease progress. Many people are unaweare that they have the disease. Prediabetes is the stage of impeared gucose tolerance, when the blood sugar level is higher than normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetes. It can span many yeares before a full blown diabetes occures.
Early symptomes can be subtle and people already have an advanced disease when they are diagnosed. Feeling of fatigue starts to occur when the cells cannot absorb glucose effectively. Unexplained weight loss are also common. Polydipsia and polyuria are classic symptomes resulting from the body trying to get rid of the excess glucose. When the glucose is high it can cause a swelling of the lens causing blurred vision that goes back to normal when the glucose level gets under controle.
