Diabetes is the fastest growing non transmissible disease in this world, both in children and adults. 1 in every 4 children are diagnosed with this disease, and it kills 3.4 million people a year. Diabetes is a potential life threatening disease that could be prevented by changes in a person's lifestyle. Since 1980 this disease has not only doubled, but quadrupled, in just 38 years. Diabetes is a chronic disease caused by the body's failure to produce enough insulin to regulate a person's glucose levels. High and low levels of blood sugars in a diabetic could lead to damage of the heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, blood vessels, even cause seizures and loss of consciousness. …show more content…
Research shows that people who consume fast food on a regular basis are more at risk for health issues, especially diabetes, and it also indicates that fast food promotes insulin resistance, which can also lead to diabetes. The problem with fasts food is that they are high in calories, sugar, and fat, but low in nutrients, meaning they shouldn't be eaten frequently, especially when trying to manage diabetes. Fast food causes rapid fluctuating blood sugar levels, and poor portion control since they are not very filling and come in larger portion sizes then recommended. Without the fast food industry people would have no choice but to go with a healthier option. The government should come up with a plan for a “Healthy Fast Food.” Since most people only get fast food because it's quick and convenient, if they had a healthier option im sure it would succeed. In order to minimize the increase in diabetes as the years go on, government needs to put a stop to unhealthy fast foods, and come up with a healthy quick drive-through for people on the
