Diabetes Educator's Theory In The Nursing Profession

As I have surveyed the subject of the theory and its significance or possibly lack of it in the nursing profession, I came to the conclusion that indeed the framework supporting my practice is quite crucial. The evidence of my initial findings is rooted in the simple fact that either novice or expert nurse, either a layperson or any medical professional is familiar with Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing and theorist who established the thirteen cannons as a path towards health through meeting patients' physical needs. Moreover, her theory provides a so-called " trunk" of "the Living Tree of Nursing Theories" which is still growing and expanding (Tourville & Ingalls, 2003, p21). Subsequently, the theory serves as a guide to define a nursing role at the same time constructing a way of patient care delivery moving practice towards improvement. Conversely, one of the essential concepts adopted into nursing practice is a nursing process which components such as assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and evaluation are extracted from Orlando's theory. Hence, to emphasize this point, it would be advantageous to briefly glance at my current role as a Diabetes Educator which allows me to utilize the nursing process to its full extent. For example, during my face to face meeting with each client, an initial assessment consists of collecting pertinent data such as blood work, dietary information, medical history, medications list along with exploring his or her will to achieve the goal. The object of patient's focus is the A1C measure, the value determined by the provider according to individuals existing comorbidities.
