This report reviews a number of the key stakeholders of Diabetes Australia and identifies methods of communication and engagement with these groups.
The stakeholder groups reviewed include Member Organisations, Federal Government, Corporate Partners and those suffering or at risk of diabetes and their carers.
A number of communication and engagement options are considered for each stakeholder group.
It is recommended that a communication strategy be considered for Diabetes Australia including a stakeholder management plan.

Section 1: Stakeholder groups
Group 1 – Member Organisations
Member organisations of Diabetes Australia are a key group of stakeholders. State based member organisations are key to Diabetes Australia as they
- provide funds to Diabetes Australia;
- provide a state based association for interested individuals and professionals to become members;
- administer government funded support to people at risk or suffering with diabetes.
Group 2 – Federal Government
Government plays an important role in maintaining access to affordable, high-quality medicines, devices and services to support people with diabetes in self-management and treatment. This is the group which are directly impacted by diabetes and issues associated with disease. It is currently estimated that at least 2 million Australians live with diabetes. This group form the core focus of the strategic plan of Diabetes Australia.
Section 2: Communication and Engagement
Communicating and Engaging with stakeholder is most effective when those stakeholders feel there is an opportunity for their voice to be heard, or for them to influence the outcome in some way as a sense of ownership of the issues ensues.
The following methods may be utilised in the communication and engagement with the reviewed stakeholder groups;
