Have you had a family member with Type 1 diabetes? If yes, Have you taken time to reflect the ways in which it is affecting your own life physically and emotionally? For those who answered yes to the first question, particularly, it’s possible that it affects you more than you have realized. Diabetes can affect anyone, maybe your mother, father, or even a sibling. “Worldwide, T1D affects millions of adults and at least 440,000 children under the age of 14, with 70,000 being diagnosed each year.” [1] This disease is usually detected during childhood, although will face diabetics their entire life. If an individual close to you suffers from this disease, it has taken a toll on you and those in your family as well. Type 1 Diabetes is a disease primarily identified as a juvenile. “Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a chronic, life-threatening autoimmune disorder that affects children of all ages.”[2] “According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in 10 American adults has diabetes.”[3] Imagine, there are 323,000,000 in the U.S, making over 32,000,000 people with diabetes alone. We must realize that a child with diabetes and a child without diabetes are not the same. [4] Through the initial cause of diabetes remains unknown, we do understand what it does to an individual experiencing it. It stops the production of Insulin in your body due to deficiencies in the immune system that cause it to target and destroy beta cells that produce insulin.…
