LRR JPO core functions have subsequently expanded and evolved to not only address radar operations and maintenance, but an extensive Service Life Extension Program, assessments of emerging technologies, Obstruction Evaluation and Interference, as well as radar data quality monitoring and management. At the current grade, the Director of the LRR JPO is the lowest grade level of any organization, by comparison, routinely charged with the strategic planning, development and execution of tasks with a critical outcome impact to their respective Domain Awareness posture. This perceived lack of stature often creates challenges that hamper the Director’s ability to influence critical decisions that have a direct bearing on overall mission capabilities. Unintended consequences derived from the past two administrations’ directives/policies on alternative energy have spawned a complete wind farm line of business which is managed out of the LRR JPO for all of DHS. Due to the unique core competencies of the LRR JPO the job grew to an expansive sphere of influence which includes frequent interface with members of congress, senior inter-agency departmental representatives, and energy industry leaders as well as a host of committees and special interest…
