Since the kids I was training were in fact so young, it was hard to keep their attention and teach them new things. I found myself having to demonstrate and repeat many drills over and over. Things I viewed as simple and easy were complex and extremely tough for the kids. I had to teach myself to stand back and remember what it was like for me when I was their age. Exercising patience became essential every training session. By doing this I was able to connect with them and teach them more effectively. Bella, the ten year old I coached, told me she incorporated the many skills I had taught her into her own games and practices. Hearing this assured me that I have become and influence in her soccer life, and my goals going into these sessions were fulfilled. I only wanted to inspire those I trained to develop their self on their own. By her telling me this, I knew that I had “lit a fire” in her to become better and better.
