When a child start his or her first day of at preschool. The child is a little scared at first because the child does not know what to expect. Once the child settles in he or she starts liking school because it is fun. At preschool the teachers provide so many different experiences and opportunities for the children to learn. Then that child reaches to a part in his or her life “elementary school” when all the fun and games is over and the child is placed with a textbook in front of his or her face. There are no more fun experiences to learn and the child’s interest for learning starts to degrade. Educators start to change their way of teaching the moment they hit school age, why? According to Dewey in his essay “Thinking In Education” he states that, “...where dramatizations, plays, and games are freely used, opportunities exist...for acquiring and applying information and ideas in the carrying forward of progressive experiences”(38). Educators should go back to using song, games, outdoor activities, experiments, plays, puppets etc to make children engaged and learning and to allow students to have a progressive experience. If educators just place a textbook in front of them it is not going to help the student retain that information or to especially apply the information to their life experiences because their brain is shut off students need their brains to be active. In the way to active a student’s brain is by providing them opportunities to learn in an active matter, which most likely will help the student actually retain the information they
