The movie was released in March 28, 1999. Dustin Hoffman is one of the executive producers, and he introduces the movie. The summary of the movie is as follows; Hannah is a 17, or so, year old girl who doesn’t care about or accept her Jewish heritage. She reluctantly goes to Seder at her Aunt Eva’s house. A custom at the Seder is drinking the wine for the prophet Elijah, and then opening the door for him. Hannah drinks a bit too much wine, and then is asked to open the door. It begins with Hannah arguing with her mom about going to the Seder at her Grandpa Will’s apartment. Hannah drinks the wine and opens the door for Elijah. When the door is opened, she goes back to the past. She is at the house of Gitl and Shmuel, sister and brother. They are going to the wedding of Shmuel. Many Jews are gathered for the wedding. They are interrupted by the Nazis, who have come to “relocate” them. Well, instead of relocating the Jews, the Nazis take them to their concentration camp. The women are forced to get new clothes and have their hair cut. They try to put up a little bit of a fight, but to no avail. Hannah meets a girl named Rivka there. Rivka helps Hannah and her friends in the camp, but the time came when they were chosen. All except Hannah. She let Rivka escape, and so Hannah was killed instead. After Hannah went into the gas chambers, she found herself back in the present time at the Seder. She talks to her Aunt Eva, and found out that she was called Rivka in the camp. The book’s theme is to never forget what happened in the
