Deviant: A Short Story

There is one particular event that comes to mind when I think about a time when frustration led me to act deviant. At this moment in my life I was in middle school, and I was dealing with a transition. My parents recently got divorced and my mother decided that it was in the best interest of my brother and me if we moved. We went from Georgia, where we lived with my father, back to New Jersey, where the majority of my family lived. We didn’t have a place to stay, so my grandmother took us in, and we stayed with her for almost four months. Not only did I have to deal with the fact that my parents were no longer together, I also had to get acclimated to my new school. I felt a little funny because I didn’t know what it felt like to be drunk, but my best friend assured me that I was fine, and she put eye drops in my eyes so they weren’t so red. She dropped me off at my grandma’s house, and my mom answered the door. I think she knew I was up to no good before I even had a chance to knock because as soon as she closed the door, she hit me with a flurry of questions. Of course I couldn’t answer any of them, so she asked me what I was doing when I was with my friend. She told me not to lie because she already knew the answer, so I just decided to tell her the truth so that maybe my punishment wouldn’t be so severe. I felt the repercussions of my actions right away, and I was not allowed out of the house until I gained my mother’s trust back, and she took everything except my clothes out of my room. At the end of it all, it was not worth it, not only did it make communication with my worse, she was now upset and disappointed with me. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I ever allowed myself to do anything deviant while I lived with my
