Therapeutic relationship is the special connection between the nurse and client that is based on trust, empathy, respect, and professional intimacy.
On the afternoon shift the certified nursing assistant (CNA) reported to me that a client did not have dinner. I went to see her to inquirer why she wasn’t eating. She informed me that she was sad and wanted someone to talk to. I sat by her bed and actively listened while she explained to me that her very close friend had died and worst she was not able to attend the funeral. I told her it was okay even normal to feel that way. She should cry if she wanted to. I further suggested that she could ask family members to take the programme and bookmarks as souvenir for her. She could even ask them to take pictures if she wished. She was excited about the suggestions and said she was feeling better. She then told me some of the fun times they had together while she ate a sandwich and had some juice.
