The classroom environment is tremendously important for both teachers and students especially for four-year-olds. Everything from the temperature to the colors in the room and the spacing can send a certain message and have a great affect on the children’s learning and how they operate within the classroom. All areas of the classroom should be considered when making a floor-plan, and the needs of the children should be the main focus. With that said, child sized furniture, and developmentally appropriate materials should be used in order to accommodate the children in every way possible. If these things are not taken into consideration it sets the tone for mistaken behavior to take place. Imagine if us as adults had to live or work in an environment that was completely child sized we would be very uncomfortable …show more content…
Having clearly organized play space and clear paths can result in fewer disruptions and more goal-directed behavior. The room should provide opportunities for uninterrupted small and large group play as well as large spaces allow for more active, large group activities that are more energetic and noisy. Clearly marked learning centers with boundaries around areas to reduce distractions, which results in attentiveness during activities. Soft areas such as bean bag chairs, pillows, or, rugs allow children to snuggle and find comfort. A noise absorbing room can enhance the children’s participation in activities and the communication process. The right wall color in a classroom can convey that the atmosphere is warm, friendly, and conducive to learning.
