There are many different developmental theories to which we can learn. While some stable adult traits certainly have heritable components, the environment certainly plays a significant role as well. Environmental influences are categorized as either physical or social. Physical influences include such prenatal and perinatal factors as maternal health, diet, emotional state, and drug use.
