Leaders do not just materialize out of nowhere and automatically start making great things happen in the world. Leaders must be prepared to develop good character and be able to control their greedy urges that make them lose sight of what is good or bad. The authors of the article Developing Leadership Character stated “failures of leadership points to issues around character as a central theme. Nowhere was this more obvious than in the financial crisis of 2008 – 2009, in which boldness or instant gratification triumphed over temperance. People who knew that bad risks were being taken did not have the courage and/or confidence to speak up, and people without integrity sold mortgages to those who could not pay them”. Recently, while doing my leadership panel discussion, the panelist Donna Sorrentino saw me on my way to a meeting and asked me how everything was going with my school project. At that time I had just picked up the program that we would be distributing to the class, so I decided to show her the program. Instantly she observed that I had put her title as a Sr. Vice President and she began to explain to me that due to our reorganization her title was Unit Manager, but her duties has not changed. She said to me even though the Sr. Vice President sounds great, she would be deceitful if she did not point out the change. This little incident might be small, but to me it showed me as a leader she had integrity. In conclusion, with small lessons learned we acquire good character based on the type of individuals we associate with. We can then carry it forward in the way we conduct ourselves in our day to day
