Cornerstone Youth Center Research Paper

Developing Knowledge of Cornerstone Youth Center At first, Cornerstone started out as a café in which youth could attend and hang out on a Friday after school. In 2004, Cornerstone expanded from a café to a small community youth center. During that period of time, the center was only open two days a weeks after school. It was intended to be a place where youth could hangout and do their homework. Eventually, Cornerstone Youth Center was moved to a bigger and more convenient location. Today, Cornerstone Youth Center provides a safe place for youth to relax, skateboard, hangout with their friends, and do homework. It is open five days a week after school. The volunteers at Cornerstone fulfill many roles and have many responsibilities. While Cornerstone is a religious organization, a volunteer does not have to be religious. If they are then they are expected to try to encourage youth to seek a relationship with God. A volunteer must be able to work well with others and respect the older volunteers that are at the center. They have to be someone that can connect with the youth and empower them. Also, when needed, a volunteer will be assigned to help a youth at the center to do their homework. Because there are many rooms and activities at Cornerstone, volunteers will work in different settings such as: the café, the skate park, or the game room. Due to the fact that volunteers interact directly with youth, they must attend a child abuse training. If a volunteer suspects or witnesses child abuse or sexual abuse, they are required to report the incident to Child Protective Services. If there are other issues or needs that the youth have, then the volunteers report the information to John
