The topic that I chose was the 2004 NBA Detroit Pistons & Indiana Pacers brawl; it was also known as the Malice at the Palace which occurred on November 19, 2004. The reason why I picked this event is because it changed the history of the NBA, and it also made a deep impact on the teams, players, and their fans; it also caused the organization to lay down different ground rules, while it also lead to a security increase at the arenas for the safety of the players and the fans while also limiting the use of alcohol. Sources say that this brawl still remains as “the most infamous brawl in NBA history;” in my opinion, any short brawl in the NBA will never top the Malice at the Palace because there have not been any brutal fights these past seasons, …show more content…
Which caused more mayhem at the palace and that was when the fans and the players were involved. Artest and Jackson were the main players that fought with the fans causing fractured vertebrae and head injuries amongst themselves and for John Green who was the main one that started it. As the Pacer’s players began racing towards the stands to get Artest and Jackson other fans began throwing unnecessary objects at them such as popcorn, drinks, and trash at them. While an NBA player threw a chair into the crowd, and a couple of fans were storming to the court throwing fists at the players and a few towards the coaching staff also “O'Neal goes after another fan while making his way to the locker room. Despite the legal issues he had growing up he still lead his high school team undefeated, and he was New York’s Co-Player of the year, and after his college career with St. John’s University, he was named the Big East’s all-time rookie during the NCAA tournament games, and he was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the NBA draft where he became a solid NBA player. During the halftime games he was spotted drinking alcohol in the locker room and the organization was concerned about it and they had a meeting with him about it which didn’t go so well and that was when he continued his career with the Indiana Pacers after being traded from
