Some of the examples of this revitalization include: the 1996 relocation of General Motors corporate headquarters into The Renaissance Center, the building of Comerica Park in 2000 as a new home for the Detroit Tigers, and also the building of the adjacent Ford Field in 2002 for the Detroit Lions . Furthermore, Joe Louis Arena went under some major redevelopment for the Detroit Red Wings to play hockey in and attract the locals and tourist to get them to travel to the Detroit area . In the summer of 1999 MGM Grand Inc. opened up a $220 million casino that brought 6,500 jobs with it . In 2000 Detroit was picked to host Super Bowl XL in its brand new football stadium, Ford Field. . All of these projects and efforts were made to help Detroit come back as a city financially, with Detroit attracting over $13 billion in new investment during Archer’s tenure as mayor.
