Determinism is the belief that everything is “determined” and there’s nothing that could be changed. The environment influences us. Free will is the belief that we could decide on our own paths and we are the ones influencing others. I personally feel that determinism and free will could occur together, but mostly by free will. Just like the poker card example in class. “The hand that is dealt you represents determinism; the way you play it is free will. (Jawaharlal Nehru)” I believe in free will more because I feel that we could change into the type of person who we want to be if we really tried. In the past, I took karate classes. It was hard, there’s a lot of exercising and movement. Everytime when I kicked the boxing bag, my feet would hurt and feel a type of burning. But, I kept practicing and successfully past my orange belt test. Another scenario would be during my sophomore year in high school. Everytime I take a test or write an essay in my global history class, the grade is very low. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to pass the regents. However, I kept studying and passed with a 96.
