The Odyssey is a certainly interesting book of short stories, in which there is many, many different tones. The first 3 parts of The Odyssey have interesting tones, and they help the reader understand the concept of the stories. In The Odyssey Part 1, Sailing From Troy, the tone is world-weary, and the word “weathered,” from the quote “Years of adventure weathered under Zeus,” shows how tired and exhausted they are from their long journey. The word “years” also supports this theme, because if they were being weathered under Zeus for years, then it shows how worn out they are and how much they need a rest from it all.…

After reading text A, and text B I noticed the tone in both of them were the same in some ways and different in others. In text A, the tone was all about how much a sixth grade student hated all the ads that had been up all around the school. Then in text B, the tone was about how the sixth grade teacher saw the bad things that the student saw, but also saw some good things about the ads in school. The tone of text A not only strengthens the argument, it also weakens it.…

Modern Post-Grunge is very different from the previous, heavier sounding Grunge despite sharing many common characteristics. The differences really started to come from a select few of major artists, who in turn made it blow up into a great genre of music. The one who is my personal favorite would have to be Breaking Benjamin. They were quick to become successful due to their impressive sound. Breaking Benjamin is known for being dynamically loud, having a low pitch, a dark and heavy tone, and focusing on the lyrics and vocals.…

Tone and mood can be instrumental in a story and it can be shown easily through the setting. There are many parts of setting that can impact the mood and tone. The mood can be set up by the setting through things like weather, time, and location. Just like in the “The Lady with the Dog” when Yalta feels very sinful and happy, Moscow feels very gloomy and sad, and Anna’s house feels constricting. In “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou, the speaker’s identity is slowly developed throughout the poem so that we are not completely sure of the speaker’s identity. The speaker is a black female that while she is speaking for herself, she is also speaking for an entire population of people just like her. People like her who are determined to rise above the historical oppression saying, “Leaving behind nights of terror and fear/ I rise/ Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear/ I rise…” (lines 35-38). The speaker conveys the motif of identity through her use of tone, repetition, and imagery. Tone plays a big role in the development of identity in the poem.…
