Almost all people will experience a period of adversity in their life and decide how they will overcome it. In two short stories “The Most Dangerous Game” and “The Sniper” they both have to overcome adversity and through determination. In “The Sniper” a soldier named is in an undergoing battle between Republicans and Free Staters. During the battle, he shoots an opposing soldier, he soon finds out he had just shot his brother. The sniper then has an emotional detachment throughout the battle, but he uses determination to stay on track. In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford is a hunter who is traveling in a boat that he falls overboard on therefore he swims to a nearby abandoned island.
