In retrospect, the Chinese motion pictures industry has been growing exponentially from 2012 to 2015.Drived by the integration of the whole cultural industry, penetration of financial capital and participation of Internet economy, the Chinese movie industry has been stepping into an era with vigor and vibrancy. The overall box office reached to 5.1 billion in 2014 from 2.2 billion in 2010 and the trend of national box office is still upward as shown in Fig.1.1.below. Since the film industry started more early and are more established in these developed countries, many factors have been monitored and examined with reliable public data. From 1983,many researchers started to explore the determinants such as star power, production cost, ratings, sequels and genre by using different methodology to make every analysis more convincing. Even though the findings are mixed and need continuous examination generally, some of them have established credible box office models and provide significant reference to further researches. However, Chinese scholars concentrated on the role of films as a political tool in the last century or tended to study more on the art aspect so that they seldom paid attention to the financial success of a movie by analyzing business data (Nakajima, 2010).
