Desulfovibrio is gram negative bacteria. There are media that will be useful in isolating this organism. The best option for a gram negative bacteria would be using a selective media specifically MacConkey agar or EMB agar. These agars are used to isolate gram negative bacteria because the crystal violet in the MacConkey agar will not allow the growth of gram positive bacterium making it a good media to isolate Desulfovibrio. If that selective media does not work then another media is to use a sulfur-reducing media. This media selects for sulfate reducing organisms. There are many tests that can determine if Desulfovibrio was isolated or not. One test that will be conducted is a gram stain test. This will determine if Desulfovibrio was isolated
