The person who told Santiago that the treasure near the pyramids in Egypt is his destiny is the old man called Melchizedek that he met in plaza. The old man was actually the king of Salem. Another important thing that the old man told him was ,” in order to the treasure, you will have to follow the omens.” (online book page 16) Later on in the story, Santiago realizes that the old man is one of the omens. His decided to go on a journey to find the treasure after his talk with the old man. Santiago had once told him he wants to give up his treasure or destiny, and live with Fatima. The alchemist said to him that if he did he will become very rich and marry Fatima and both be happy for a year. However, in the next few years the omens will be constantly speaking to him and he will try to ignore them. He also told him that a man should never be interrupted by love during his journey to find his destiny. Especially the love with Fatima because she's a woman of the desert and she knows that she have to wait for her man to come back from the desert to marry her. From the alchemist, he realized that his destiny had already been set and what a man and woman of the desert have to do.
During this journey, Santiago had learned a lot of things about the world, learned about himself, find his love, and finally he find his
