In Persepolis, Marji the main character tell her story from the perspective of a Iranian female living in a upper/middle class family; she is also against communism and fundamentalism. Ansary wants to move away from the negative stereotypes of Islam. He doesn't want his religion to be associated with the extremists of it, which sadly most religions are represented from extremists ideas. He did state that “given my personal stake, I could concede that I might be overestimating the importance of islam.”(xvi). He does say that he might be exaggerating about Islam due to his positive experiences that he has with it. This does not make his opinions about Islam false
